Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about FusionPDF
Are my files safe?
Yes, completely. FusionPDF processes your files
directly in your browser. No file is ever sent to a server. Your documents remain on your device at all times and are automatically cleared from memory when you close or refresh the page. Want to understand exactly how this works and how it compares to tools like iLovePDF or Smallpdf? Read our
complete PDF privacy guide →
Is it really free? Are there any limits?
Yes, completely free with no limits. No premium plan, no page quotas, no subscription. You can use all tools as many times as you want, without creating an account.
What file formats are supported?
FusionPDF supports the following formats:
- PDF — all PDF tools (merge, split, compress, rotate, etc.)
- Images — JPG, PNG, WEBP for conversion to PDF
- Word — .docx for conversion to PDF
- Excel — .xlsx, .xls, .ods, .csv for conversion to PDF
Why is the service free?
FusionPDF is an open source project developed to make PDF tools accessible to everyone. Since processing happens in your browser, infrastructure costs are minimal.
Can I use FusionPDF on mobile?
Yes, FusionPDF is fully responsive and works on smartphones and tablets. Some intensive tools may be slower on mobile due to hardware limitations.
What is the maximum file size?
FusionPDF does not impose any limit. The actual limit depends on the memory available in your browser and device. For very large PDFs, we recommend using a desktop computer.
Does the site work without an internet connection?
An internet connection is required on first page load to download the JavaScript libraries. Once the page is loaded, processing your files no longer requires an active connection.
Can password-protected PDFs be processed?
Most tools attempt to open protected PDFs by bypassing read restrictions. The
Unlock PDF tool lets you remove a password from a PDF if you know the current password.
Is the PDF quality preserved?
Yes, for most operations (merging, splitting, rotating, reordering, etc.), original quality is preserved 100% since pages are copied as-is without re-encoding. Only compression intentionally reduces quality.
I'm having a problem, what should I do?
First try reloading the page. If the problem persists, make sure your browser is up to date (recent Chrome, Firefox, Edge, or Safari). If the error continues,
contact us describing your issue.
