How to Reverse PDF Pages

Drop your PDF into the upload area. The tool loads the document and shows the page count. An info box confirms the reversal that will be applied — for example, "20 pages — order will be reversed (page 20 to page 1)."

Click "Reverse and download." pdf-lib copies all pages in reverse index order into a new PDF document. For a 10-page PDF, the output order is: 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1. The file downloads immediately after processing.

No settings are needed. The tool reverses the entire document in one click. If you need to reverse only part of a document, consider using the Reorder pages tool instead, which lets you arrange pages individually.

When Should You Reverse a PDF?

The most common reason to reverse a PDF is fixing double-sided scan output. Many single-sided scanners require you to scan the front faces first, then flip the paper stack and scan the back faces. The backs come out in reverse reading order because the last sheet you scanned becomes the first back page in the PDF.

The standard correction workflow is: scan backs into PDF B, reverse PDF B using this tool, then combine the corrected PDF B with PDF A using the Interleave tool. The result is the correct reading sequence.

Other situations where reversing helps: a report assembled in reverse chronological order that should read oldest-to-newest, a booklet whose pages need to be flipped for a specific printing method, or a scanned stack where the document was placed face-down in the wrong order.

Reverse vs. Reorder — Which Tool to Use?

Reverse and Reorder are complementary tools, but they solve different problems.

For duplex scan correction, reverse is almost always the right first step. For general reorganization of report sections or presentation slides, the reorder tool is more appropriate.

Is This a Lossless Operation?

Yes, completely. Reversing page order is a metadata-level change in the PDF structure. pdf-lib copies page objects from the source document into a new document in a different index order. No pixel is re-rendered, no image is re-compressed, and no text encoding is modified.

The file size of the reversed PDF may differ slightly from the original because pdf-lib writes a clean object structure, but the visual content of every page is byte-for-byte identical to the source. If you open the reversed PDF side by side with the original and compare corresponding pages, they are identical.
