Crop PDF Pages Free — Trim Margins and Adjust Visible Area

FusionPDF crops PDF pages by adjusting the visible area (media box) using pdf-lib — trimming margins, removing unwanted borders, or focusing on a specific region. The original page content is not deleted, only the visible boundary is changed. All processing runs in your browser with no upload.

How to Crop a PDF

Upload your PDF. Enter the amount to trim from each side — top, bottom, left, and right — in millimeters. Use the quick presets (5 mm, 10 mm, 20 mm) or type custom values. The crop applies to all pages simultaneously. Click "Crop and download" to save the result immediately to your device.

Crop vs. Auto Crop White Margins: Which Should You Use?

There are two cropping workflows available. Manual crop: you set exact values for each side — useful when you know how many millimeters to remove. Auto crop white margins: the tool detects and removes white space automatically — faster when dealing with scanned pages that have inconsistent borders. Use manual crop for precise control and auto crop for batch scans.

Crop vs. Resize: What Is the Difference?

Crop trims the visible boundary of a page without scaling the remaining content. Resize scales all page content to fill a new set of dimensions. If you want to remove a 10 mm border, crop is the right tool. If you want to convert an A4 document to Letter size, use resize instead.

When Is Cropping a PDF Useful?

  • Removing thick borders left by scanner hardware or scanning software
  • Cropping a PDF to a specific region before embedding it in a presentation or document
  • Adjusting a PDF template to remove header or footer areas not relevant to a specific audience
  • Trimming excessive white space on pages exported from design tools

A Note on Cropped Content

When you crop a PDF using the media box method, content outside the crop boundary is hidden but not permanently deleted from the file structure. This is standard PDF behavior. If you need to permanently remove sensitive content from a document, use the Redact PDF tool instead, which erases content rather than hiding it behind a boundary adjustment.
